Clearly we need a democratic House of Lords and state funding of political parties.
Until then these kind of stories will continue to crop up.
As far as the details of the case is concerned, there is no point in having an opinion unless the case is examined and reported on by the appropriate authorites. Only then will we have a good idea about the facts of what happened.
It stinks and does the party no good. Our Treasurer is either a fool for forgetting he nominated him or a liar.
Jim, this is a little unfair to say the least. I have an updated post here:

He doesnt even sit in the Lords as a Lib Dem! Not much of a “cash for peerages” success if he isnt even a Lib Dem…
So he’s a peoples peer not a party appointment. He is a director of a company but isn’t a director or owner of the comapany that gave the donations.
It’s like saying if you are a director of sainsburys and give money to the Tories then Lord Sainsbury (Lab) has donated money to the wrong party.
I bet if I looked hard at Lab & Con donations I could find simular sister comapanies of their peers.
Yes, the only interesting thing about this story is that it highlights the Times’ ignorance about finance (just read their crappy business section for more evidence!).
It seems that their journalists have no idea of the role of a NED (Non Executive Director) and can’t distinguish between that and an executive director, let alone an owner-manager 🙄
