Top of the Blogs: The Lib Dem Golden Dozen #182

Welcome to the Golden Dozen, and our 182nd weekly round-up from the Lib Dem blogosphere … Featuring the seven most popular stories beyond Lib Dem Voice according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (8th – 14th August, 2010), together with a hand-picked quintet, normally courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.

Don’t forget: you can sign up to receive the Golden Dozen direct to your email inbox – just click here – ensuring you never miss out on the best of Lib Dem blogging.

As ever, let’s start with the most popular post, and work our way down:

1. Thoughts on the Coalition on James Taylor’s blog.
Highlighting Richard Grayson’s recent New Statesman analysis of the Lib Dems.

2. Explaining the Liberal Democrats’ disappointing performance in 2010: an update
on Neil Stockley’s blog.
Two key poll findings and one very big question: ‘How will being in the coalition help or hinder the Liberal Democrats’ efforts to build more credibility on the issues – and a stronger partisan base?’

3. Deluded Norwich labour – Any depths, any lie will do! on Nich Starling’s Norfolk Blogger.
One to refer to the next time Labour denounce a Lib Dem Focus leaflet.

4. BNP close to extinction as Richard Barnbrook resigns on Andrew Reeves’ Running Blog.
Couldn’t happen to nicer people.

5. The “traditional Methodist wing” of the Lib Dems? on Jonathan Wallace’s blog.
Forget dangerous Orange Bookers, the real fissure is with the temperate White Collars (according to the Indy).

6. A lesson in coping with criticism on Caron Lndsay’s Musings.
Don’t listen to Tom Harris, Anna: your ‘libby’ looks fab to me.

7. Nick Clegg’s hero and a flying bat’s fart
on Paul Walter’s Liberal Burblings.
Paul reprises a greatest hit… with a slightly more attention-grabbing headline this time.

And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended, regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. These are normally chosen using the LibDig bookmarking website for party members, the site where you can highlight blog-posts you want to share with your fellow Lib Dems. Remember, though, you’re still more than welcome to nominate for the Golden Dozen a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail … all you have to do is drop a line to .

8. An Open Letter To The Labour Party on Andrew Hickey’s blog.
“Andrew Hickey is wise beyond his years. Having been in his position, albeit a few years before, his open letter to Labour strikes a chord with me and doubtless many others.” (Submitted by burkesworks via LibDig.)

9. The 5 stages of grief….I mean government
on Charlotte Henry’s Virtually Naked.
‘It’s time to move through the stages, and get on with governing-the party has waited 90 years for it.’ (Submitted by helenduffett via LibDig.)

10. Liberalism in the Liberal Democrats on Olga Ivannikova’s blog.
‘I think that in the last general election Liberal Democrats were too scared to be liberal. I dont think they should make the same mistake again.’

11. Godwin’s Law and Labour arrogance on Sara Bedford’s Always win when you’re singing.
“Why the Nazi analogies surrounding Alan Milburn’s appointment?” (Submitted by sarabedford via LibDig.)

12. Benefit “Fraud” and Tax “Evasion” on Jennie Rigg’s blog.
“In the wake of the latest government “crackdown” on benefit fraud, it’s worrying to see some “Lib Dems” are believing the tabloid hype about claimants being feckless and fraudulent. Mercifully, Jennie is not among them; here she explains why tax evasion by the rich is a far bigger problem.” (Submitted by burkesworks via LibDig.)

And that’s it for another week. Happy blogging ‘n’ reading ‘n’ nominating.

Anna was delighted when I showed her your comment about her libby looking fine. Clearly praise from the very important co-editor of Lib Dem Voice counts for a lot more than criticism from some Labour MP:-)
