John Yaxley, elected as a Conservative councillor in Caradon District Council in 2003, has (after a period as an independent) now joined the Liberal Democrats: “I believe that they now clearly offer the only credible voice for the people of South East Cornwall.”

Who? You really are scrapping the bottom of the barrel, aren’t you Mark?
Cabinet Member for the Environment. So not exactly an obscure back bench councillor 🙂
In some obscure borough in Cornwall. The fact that he left the Conservatives and sat as an Indy before joining the Dim Lebs, does not count as a Conservative defection. The headline should read “Independent joins Dim Lebs”. So far 7 Lib Dem parliamentary candidates have actually defected to the Conservatives as have scores of councillors, activists and supporters(-:
I’m more than happy for you to ‘gain’ the odd Independent or nutter from the 2 main parties, if that means real sensible liberals continue to join us.
It’s good that Tories come here to show us just how stupid & unpleasant they are & always will be.
Clearly a troll and not a pixie. Only a troll would be so crass to call a Cornish local authority “obscure”. It isn’t “obscure” to the people who live there. Ah, but more of them vote Lib Dem than Tory which, I suppose, makes all the difference, at least to a troll.
I notice from another evil site that an Independent joined the Tories this week too – are we seeing a general delcine in Independent Councillors etc. Does anyone have figures? It seems a great many cite wanting to be part of a group!
‘some Obscure borough in COrnwall’ – this is the sort of ignorant racist tone that has seen the Tories cleared out in Cornwall. Caradon is not a Borough but a District! If Conservatives are so stupid they can’t even get that right perhaps they should just keep their opinions to themselves!
Kernow bys vyken!
Tim.
Racist?
Yeah, RACIST. The Cornish are a bunch of stupid yokels who eat too much fish, and are so brain dead they elect 5 Lib Dem MPs. They come somewhere close to bottom in the Tory ethnic hierarchy. Just above Travellers and African asylum-seekers, I guess.
Case proven I think – looks like the Tory party are incapable of changing their spots… I guess at least e are not so stupid as to vote Conservative 🙂
