Featherstone: Lib Dems will fight to protect renewables sector

Lynne FEatherstone 2007 Brighton conference by Liberal DemocratsEnergy and Climate Change spokesperson Lynne Featherstone has accused the government (perfectly reasonably) of making “ideological cuts” to the renewables sector. Speaking ahead of a Lords debate on the Energy Bill tomorrow, she said:

Liberal Democrats have made changes to the Government’s Energy Bill in the House of Lords, and will be fighting to protect onshore wind subsidies in the debate.

We will be fighting to keep these changes, which will help protect our renewable energy industry in the face of brutal Conservative cuts.

Now they are in government alone, the Tories have reverted to type and have shown they have no commitment to the green energy which will help tackle climate change and protect our world for future generations.

Britain risks falling behind other countries as the government pursues ideological cuts.

  • This is how far we as progressives have moved forward in the wrong direction;
    We are living longer now than at anytime in history and Smog Warning Days have been rare for decades in the U.S. and Canada and now fracking’s abundance is ending the oil wars with possible world peace and reliable energy for generations to come.
    Spread love not needless panic.

    When did all the wars over oil end – I must’ve missed it? Interesting how a good deal of the Paris attackers came from Belgium or elsewhere in Western Europe, yet we bomb oil-rich nations in the Middle East… If you want to buy the media spin that’s your lookout. Just don’t idealise fracking or pretend we’re living in a world of milk and honey if you want to call yourself a progressive!
