Have your say on MPs’ expenses

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is running a public consultation on MPs’ expenses, to run from 7 January to 11 February 2010.

The IPSA was created by the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009, in response to last summer’s public outcry at MPs’ expenses and allowances claims under the existing scheme. The body is independent of Parliament, Government and political parties.

Respond online or in writing with your views on a new scheme for MPs’ expenses.

There’s also the chance to make further suggestions and to comment on the proposals’ impact on “the diversity of representation in the House of Commons.”

The results of the public consultation will be used “to inform the content of the expenses scheme, which will be laid before Parliament before the general election if it is called in May or June 2010.”

    Completed the online survey. I must say in general the proposals seem quite good and generally reflect my own thoughts on Expenses

    What’s the point? The final decision will still be made by MPs, won’t it? What do they care what the public thinks, once they’re elected?

    Done, and yes, the proposals are more on the public side than I anticipated or they had previously been trailed to be.

    @Anthony, The final decision will be made by the IPSA hence the word Independent in its title
