Here at LDV towers, we often receive offers of work which do very little to persuade us that the author either knows what this site is about, or is able to write reasonably correct English.
The following is typical. I have removed names.

Amazingly that last one was repeated, word for word, a few weeks later from another source, only with “Games” instead of “Home Improvement”. What are the chances? Are we witnessing some sort of convergence towards an ideal text? Somebody needs to tell the next would-be contributor.

These are all apparently from different people, making essentially the same offer – articles with backlinks to their own sites – all with essentially the same message structure, and all with the same kinds of grammatical oddities and errors.
Why? Yes there is probably some attempt at search engine optimisation going on here, but that doesn’t seem a sufficient explanation. Yes, there are clearly non-native English speakers practising their English. But this still doesn’t seem sufficient explanation for the degree of similarity in structure. Perhaps there is a training course for people who wish to learn English and make money in SEO at the same time, which recommends sending out this kind of email. But I’m beginning to suspect that somebody is trying to create a Turing compliant chatbot and is testing it by having it email website owners.
If you are a human being, or the next generation of chatbot, and you do want to write for us, please look here.
The last word goes to ______.
My name is ______. I am a professional blogger who loves to write on financial and legal topics. I have some financial or legal websites & blogs full with reach content. You are cordially invited to make guest post out there. In return I would also humbly request you to show me your financial websites & blogs where you will allow me to make financial guest posts.
I don’t believe in writing promotional articles, instead I feel guest post should be something that should be beneficial to visitors.
In each post only one link allowed. If you are interested then please revert back to me here.

Yes, but without Stephen and Mark, what would you do for content?
😉
Of course the fun little irony is that now you have written “health,” “finance” & “home improvement” on a blog post, they are more likely to come up with the spammers key word search.
I didn’t help just now in fact.
Just had something very similar via my LP facebook page – they are auto-generated nonsense from fake accounts. I promptly deleted the message and banned the user from the page.
My initial reaction is that the links probably go to sites containing malware.
I think that as with phishing emails, the spelling mistakes and the like are *genuine*. The logic is that people who are put off by spelling mistakes and grammatical howlers are very unlikely to be willing to agree to the proposals / fall for the phishing scam, and so it is better to put them off at the first stage. That way you know that all the people who do respond are a much better prospect and so you concentrate on the most fruitful leads.
A somewhat bizarre yet also very effective way of targeting efforts!
@Nigel Ashton – in my experience the links are genuine rather than malware. There’s a lot of activity at this cruddy low end of the search marketing business.
Mark, you’ve made a breakthrough. Now I understand the Prescott technique!
At idle moments some of us at LDV do reply to some of these emails – and sometimes we get personal replies, so they are not all bots. Recently someone offered to write a post on online poker, or alternatively on fitness, so I replied thus:
Dear xx
I fear you may have been misreading Liberal Democrat Voice during your regular visits. Although punters have been known to bet on the outcomes of elections we do not overtly encourage that ourselves, mainly because we are too busy trying to win them.
However, we would be interested if you could write an erudite post which analysed some of the strategies employed by world class poker players and showed how they could be applied to election campaigns.
Similarly, political campaigners do need to keep fit so we would welcome any tips on how to deal with endurance events such as delivering leaflets to high blocks of flats without using the lifts, or outrunning snappy dogs.
With best wishes
Now I really want to read Mary’s article on world class poker election strategies. 🙁
Concerning Guy’s comment: personal finance sex games gaming pharmaceuticals watches investment sport.
I think they’re on to something here.
