Ros Scott’s party president report, April 2009

Those of you wishing to find out what Lib Dem party president Baroness Ros Scott has been up to in the past month (or so) can sate your curiosity over at her Because Baronesses are people too blog. Here’s an excerpt to entice you:

I’ve been working with Jeremy Hargreaves (Vice Chair Federal Policy Committee) and a group of his colleagues to look at how members might be more involved in policy making. We have a number of new initiatives which you should see being rolled out during the summer. This should be a major step forward in providing more ways in which members can participate in Party activity.

Last month’s Federal Executive received an important report on the retention of Parliamentary candidates, and resolved to move the work forward by finding a “candidates champion” and a project manager to take a lead on the recommendations in the report. I’m pleased to say that Tim Farron has agreed to be the champion, and I’ve met with him to discuss how to tackle the issues raised in the report.

You can read Ros’s report in full HERE.

Oh FFS will people get a grip. MP with a 500 vote majority in a seat the Tories are targeting like crazy.

Either he’ll have no time to devote to this – or its time that could be much better spent!

As I understand it the Tories in Westmorland and Lonsdale were crushed and then self-destructed on top for good measure.

Didnt we sweep the board in Lakeland council?

As long as something disastrous doesn’t happen, Westmorland and Lonsdale is a lot safer than other much less marginal seats. The Tories have selected a candidate who was then deselected by the national party and the local party was put in special measures. No literature has been delievered by them until very recently.

Since 2005, the council has gone from NOC to Lib Dems, 36, Tories 14, Labour 1. My family live in the seat and Tim is well liked and a good constituency MP, who has scored major local sucess with his campaign over Kendal hospital. My parents are natural Tory voters but have voted for him as has my ex Socialist Worker sister! A great MP with great experience to give to candidates. If not him then which MP would you nominate to help candiates with a large safe majority, no major front bench commistments and a knowledge of decades of hard campaigning against the odds?

Hywel……don’t exagerate….Tim has a majority of 267, which is a figure that all of us here in W&L have drummed into us at every moment. The bookies have the reality about right.

To send us off to sleep at night after delivering leaflets or residents surveying, or voter identifying, we good folk in South Lakeland count sheep (there are plenty in Westmorland), and it is amazing that there are always three stragglers to go along with the 44 rows of six abreast.
