Three “saintly” Liberal Democrat MPs #MPexpenses

The Telegraph has canonised three Liberal Democrat MPs (for what that’s worth) because they have not made claims for second homes:

Sarah Teather’s balance sheet has a column of zeroes, as does fellow London MP Lynne Featherstone’s, here.

David Howarth, whose Cambridge constituency is a significant commuting distance from London, is also listed.

It’s worth noting that none of the Liberal Democrat MPs from London constituencies claim an allowance for a second home, but it’s still good to see the Telegraph including Lib Dems in their praise.

  • It’s better than the Independent saying `David Howarth is the only Lib Dem MP outside London not to claim for a second home`. Yeh, like the commuting time to Portsmouth is really easy!

  • Its a shame we have been so badly let down by Lord Rennard. It’s about time we heard if he is to be sacked,

  • Good we have 3 saints given the Telegraph still highlighting:-
    1. Nick – pushed expenses claim to limit.
2.Andrew G – questions to answer re London flat.
    3.Lembit – wanted £2,500 for a TV.
    4.Menzies – £10,000 bill for flat overhaul.
    5. Steve w – £7,500 claim for stamp duty.
    6. Julie’s – spending spree as deadline loomed.
We need to clean up fast.

  • Interesting that the Telegraphs ‘Three Saints’ are all in seats where the Tories don’t have chance at the next general election. Why not priase Tom Brake or Paul Burstow who have no second homes. Unlike Chris Grayling MP for Epsom who is on the same train line just a stop or two on who has several. The trains to Wallington are all on the slow line unlike those to Epsom.

I suspect that Mike’s misrepresentation of Julia’s names as he talks about “us” and “we” exposes him as not a Lib Dem. Do try harder next time

  • An interesting illustration of how the Murdoch press feeds horse manure to the public:

David Cameron tried to make political capital out of this story, please note.

Yes, we now know why Murdoch’s hacks were able to follow Lord Rennard’s movements in Eastbourne – they were hiding in the bushes peeping at teenagers having sex.

  • The Telegraph Saints list is basically a list of the “so rich we don’t need allowances” (Adam Afriyie) coupled with MPs who live in London or on fast commuter routes into London.

So basically it tells us if you are rich or if you live near to London you don’t need help with housing costs.

Great – so MPs will either have to all be from London OR be privately wealthy. Who will represent me?
