Well, the newspaper front pages assert there’s no doubt who is responsible for the downfall of Ming Campbell: Lib Dem ‘plotters’. Which coming from newspapers which have constantly pilloried Ming simply for being in his 60s, and have blown up his light-hearted asides as gaffes, seems to me like breathtaking hypocrisy.
But over to you: who do you think gave Ming the final push? Was it:

– The ‘young turks’;
– The bloggers;
– Ming himself;

– Brown and Cameron?

Duncan, that is kind of the point of the poll. Given the tenor of this morning’s press coverage – ridiculously suggesting it was all down to internal backstabbers – it’s no bad thing to point out that Ming was facing pressure from lots of different sources. Not least the media, as the early poll results suggest.

Isn’t it obvious that the two assassins were the ones reading out his resignation statement?
@ 9 – No, not necessarily. Both have constitutional functions in situations like this. Simon as President receives the resignation, Vince as Deputy Leader has to show continuity and hold the fort for a while.
