Sky exclusive: Tony Lit, Tony Blair and the £50,000 cheque

Sky is just about to break a story about Tony Lit being photographed giving a £50,000 £4,800 cheque to Tony Blair at a Labour fundraiser. Let’s hope this story is more accurate than the PA’s poll reporting attempts earlier this evening…

UPDATE: The Telegraph has more about Tony Lit and the donation.

UPDATE 2: The party’s official reaction is up on the Ealing Southall by-election site.

So there are two candidates in this by-election who support neocon warmonger Tony Blair, and one with integrity: Nigel Bakhai – who, let us remember, can second last time, ahead of the Tory, who came third (although at least that one was a Conservative).

    In the Observer story
    http://observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/story/0,,2126716,00.html
a Tory spokesman claimed that “the Lits had been told the fund-raising event was organised by Labour MP Keith Vaz, and that the money would be going to his charity, Starline, which helps disadvantaged children.”

However, Tom Watson has published a copy of the cheque in his blog:
    http://www.tom-watson.co.uk/?p=1369
    - Everybody can see, that the cheque is addressed to Labour Party.

Neil, I was reading your comment on a mobile phone and thus it took a while to get through it…

…BUT we were all still laughing by the time I’d scrolled to the end… ;-)

I like to think I’m a pretty strong supporter of the Lib Dems, but in all the years I’ve been an activist, I don’t think I’ve given £4,800 in total…..

And that is to the party I support….. Let alone to one I don’t.

Even accepting that Lit does truly support the Tories as he claims, and is not just a cynical opportunist, then what would be the purpose of the donation to Labour funds…..?

Surely Sunrise Radio didn’t expect that their £5K (+£4K) would buy them some advantageous treatment from the Govt did they? That would be wrong wouldn’t it?

I was so embarassed to see Sky News yesterday, never in a millon years would you give £4,800 to your opposition, I dont think the Lit’s know what side of the fence they are on

Amazingly crass of the Lits, and even worse tyhey bid in the Labour auction and are due to pay £4,000 more for which they get to go support the Hilary Clinton Democrat campaign!! So how will Tony Lit explain that?

I have a theory that it was not the real Tony Lit at the Labour Party fundraiser but was someone who had stolen his DNA (code 1234) and used it to impersonate him.

I am sure that Conservative Home could confirm this.
