Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #136

Welcome to the 136th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (20-26th September 2009), together with a hand-picked quintet, partly courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.

Don’t forget, by the way, you can now sign up to receive the Golden Dozen direct to your email inbox – just click here – ensuring you never miss out on the best of Lib Dem blogging.

As ever, let’s start with the most popular post, and work our way down:

1. Thank you, and goodbye on Costigan Quist’s Himmelgarten Cafe blog.
2009’s Lib Dem Blog of the Year closes its doors.

2. Our Vince: From Fred Astaire to Mr Bean? on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
Knocking Vince’s halo off. For those wanting James’s full monty (ahem) click here.

3. An Open Letter to Andrew Neil on Linda Jack’s Lindyloo’s Muze blog.
BBC’s Daily Politics presenter has riled Linda: ‘Mr Neil, we love you dearly, we enjoy your banter and we don’t even mind being the butt of your jokes, what we object to is your coming across a puddle and telling us it’s a lake, or perhaps as its the Lib Dems we are talking about, coming across a pothole and telling us there has been an earthquake…………….’

4. My best moment at conference so far……….THAT Ed Fordham moment! by Angela Harbutt on Liberal Vision’s blog.
Exposing Tory ex-councillor Mike Greene for posing as a hard-up ordinary member of the public disgusted with the Lib Dems.

5. LibDem conference: It started with ambition, but ended in confusion by Mark Littlwood on Liberal Vision’s blog.
‘… if we want to put on 4% or 5% in a General Election campaign, we will need to make sure our communications strategy and our message are much better than this.’

6. Bile, or ‘Paxman is a complete and utter dick for whom a chilli-covered dildo is too good. Discuss’
on Wit and Wisdom’s blog.
Just hold that image.

7. Tory Party fractures in Bedford over Mayoral Open Primary
on Nich Starling’s Norfolk Blogger blog.
Don’t forget to help the Lib Dems’ Bedford mayoral candidate, Dave Hodgson.

And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. As is now traditional we’re using the LibDig widget to select some of the posts from the seven days in question which you’ve most ‘dug’. But, remember, if you want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail all you have to do is drop a line to (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. MEPs condemn Lithuania’s ’section 28′ law; Tories abstain on DELGA’s website.
“The side of the Tory party in Europe they try to hide in the UK.” (Submitted by markpack via LibDig).

9. Name the ‘dirty cheating bastard’
on Chris Davies MEP’s blog.
‘It would be so easy to find myself hoisted by my own petard, accused of hypocrisy and with my words turned against me. There will be europhobe journalists out there just itching to put me down with a big headline.’ Chris explains his anger at MEPs’ expense.

10. Lib Dems borrow to fund glossy mailshots on Jonathan Calder’s Liberal England blog.
‘Cowley Street insiders do enjoy telling the press how ingenious they are,’ observes Jonathan.

11. Toying with Miriam’s bra strap (or why Jo Swinson is wrong) on Alex Folkes’ A Lanson Boy blog.
When a picture says a thousand words.

12. The Liberal Democrat post-credit crunch economic policy. A blow by blow account. on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
Eleven changes to the party’s core economic message in two years: ‘Is it really that surprising that we mere mortals are somewhat confused?’

And that’s it for another week (ish). Happy blogging.
