Written by Rob Fenwick on 2nd April 2007 – 6:59 am

Congratulations to Rebecca Hunt, selected to be PPC for Maidstone and The Weald, and to Sarah Carr who has been selected to take the baton from Paul Keetch in Hereford.

Thanks to Mark Valladares and Colin Ross for the head’s up.

  1. Dafs Says:

    A further female PPC selected:

    Aqila Choudry in Leeds NE

  2. Meral Ece, chair, EMLD Says:

Its very good news that we have a woman selected as PPC in a seat with a retiring MP. Is this the first?

  3. Alex Wilcock Says:

Wasn’t that Liz Lynne in Rochdale, back in 1992?

  4. John Says:

“Wasn’t that Liz Lynne in Rochdale, back in 1992?”

    I love political geeks! ;-)

  5. Meral Ece, chair, EMLD Says:

If it was 1992, then congrats to Sarah Carr!
Still have some way to go if we are to achieve 50% women MPs after the next election… I think we have around 4 BME PPCs so far. Don’t think any are women, though would love to be corrected!

  6. Meral Ece, chair, EMLD Says:

I stand corrected. Aqila Choudry must be the first female PPC so far!

  7. Tony Hill Says:

Liz Leffman has been selected to fight part of Mark Oaten’s seat (admittedly the less promising bit).

  8. Mark Valladares Says:

Susan Kramer too (succeeded Jenny Tonge in Richmond Park in 2005)…

  9. Hywel Morgan Says:

Technically wasn’t Flo Clucas selected for part of David Alton’s old seat?
