PPC news: two more women candidates

Congratulations to Rebecca Hunt, selected to be PPC for Maidstone and The Weald, and to Sarah Carr who has been selected to take the baton from Paul Keetch in Hereford.

Thanks to Mark Valladares and Colin Ross for the head’s up.

Its very good news that we have a woman selected as PPC in a seat with a retiring MP. Is this the first?

Wasn’t that Liz Lynne in Rochdale, back in 1992?

If it was 1992, then congrats to Sarah Carr!
Still have some way to go if we are to achieve 50% women MPs after the next election… I think we have around 4 BME PPCs so far. Don’t think any are women, though would love to be corrected!

I stand corrected. Aqila Choudry must be the first female PPC so far!

Liz Leffman has been selected to fight part of Mark Oaten’s seat (admittedly the less promising bit).

Susan Kramer too (succeeded Jenny Tonge in Richmond Park in 2005)…

Technically wasn’t Flo Clucas selected for part of David Alton’s old seat?
