The Tory MP for Croydon Central, Andrew Pelling, who is also a member of the Greater London Assembly, has been suspended from the Tory party, following his arrest last week on suspicion of assaulting his wife.
This is the Tory statement as reported by the BBC:
“Following a meeting today with the Chief Whip, Andrew Pelling’s case has been referred to the Conservative Party’s Ethics and Integrity Committee. Until a conclusion is reached, he has been suspended from the Conservative Party Whip.”

The irony of this is that Andrew Pelling used to collect political positions like some people collect pens. At one time he was a Croydon councillor, leader of Croydon Tory council group, GLA Member and MP for Croydon Central. Now he is just down to being a GLA member and an MP. Although another Tory has already been selected to fight his GLA seat next year, and now his parliamentary seat looks at risk.
Has he only had the parliamentary whip suspended? What about the GLA?
About time too. If there wasn’t reason to believe he is guilty, he wouldn’t have been arrested.
