Embarrassment for Cameron over invalid donations

David Cameron’s constituency party has admitted receiving £7,000 in donations that, er…, it wasn’t allowed to receive. The money has now been forfeited.

Is this the curse of the electoral register change again? If you get donations by standing order you need to re-register the donation each year showing the new electoral register number… otherwise the donation is forfait for that year even though the donor is actually on the register. Some LibDem local party somewhere will be caught out this year unless we have an unprecedentedly efficient set of treasurers returns.

Can I be the first ‘troll’ to mention Michael Brown? Paid it back yet?

Think you might be interested in THIS story (found on Iain Dale’s site) http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/news/cardiff-news/2007/12/14/liberal-democrat-in-party-donation-cover-up-claim-91466-20249816/. Looks like you’re in a spot of bother, too.

I wonder if this gets through comment moderation? (-:
